Mysore StyleThe Ashtanga Yoga method is built around the ‘Mysore Style’ class, so named because yoga was taught this way by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore, India, and continues to be taught this way in traditional Ashtanga Yoga schools around the world. Mysore Ashtanga, the student learns a sequence of postures through one-on-one instruction or independently- most people practice Mysore on their own. This is they style I practice in my own, self-practice, outside studio classes. The Basic Yoga Level 1 & 2 is taught in this style to get feedback on your postures and practice movements, breathing, and other aspects, which are learned gradually, in a step-by-step process accessible to anyone.
You should take this practice slow and gradual. This practice is intended to allow the student time to practice and memorize what they have learned before adding more. This practice in class is often performed facing one another, and only by simple voice cues in Sanskrit ( I will use English mixed with Sandskrit). I will count in English to start in the live classes and then eventually move to Sandskrit.
This practiced is thoughtful, slow, and physical. Please be sure you medically are able to do yoga before beginning.
Beginner Ashtanga I would start with the Primary Series. We will be doing this in the 5:30pm Wednesday Class to compliment your at home learning.
